14.1 Creating a Map
14.0 World & Region Maps 14.1 Creating a Map

Create a new map by clicking the green "New Map" button in the top right of the main Regional Maps page. Please note, you must be a GM or Cartographer to see this button.

First, choose a name for your map for easy reference later. If you are a GM, you will see a "Secret?" toggle that you can click to hide this map from players.

The next two dropdowns are Grid Across and Grid Down. These control how many tiles your map will consist of. A very large and detailed map will need more tiles, v.s. a smaller general map might need less tiles. If the image you are uploading already has a tile grid on it, simply count the tiles across and down and set the dropdowns accordingly. If your image does not have a grid overlay, start with something like 12 across and 12 down to get a basic idea. Larger maps will take longer to load. You can always come back and change this after you get started.

The next option is a "Disable Overlay" toggle. If "Yes", it will disable the entire colored map overlay which hides the image from your players. The grid and tile icons will remain. We recommend setting the map Secret and Disable Overlay to "Yes" while you set up, to make tile size and placement adjustments easier.

Next, select your image file to upload. Please keep in mind the file size limitations and your campaign storage space, as map files tend to be quite large.

Image Settings

The image settings below can also be set up on the map page by clicking the orange cog button on the right. It is easier when you can see the adjustments in real time.

The Image Width and Image Height override allow you to manually adjust your image size to better line up with your grid or allow for larger or smaller tiles. This is especially helpful if your image already has a grid overlay and you need to adjust the size to fit.

The Image Top Adjust and Image Left Adjust let you move your image underneath in order to help line up your grid.

Tile Settings

Choose your Tile Orientation depending on your needs or gameplay. You can choose from square, horizontal hexes or vertical hexes.

Set the Tile Size to your personal preference, or to help line up with your uploaded image. We recommend a minimum of size 100 for best functionality, and the default is 104.

Finish Up

Finally, you can add a description to your map. This is for notes only, and is currently only visible to Cartographers or GMs on the edit map page.

Click the blue "Create Map" button at the bottom to save. Please only click it once, as it may take a moment to generate your map.
